#14 GC GOLF TAKES TO THE COURSE in 2013
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 14 Georgia College golf program begins the 2013 spring schedule Monday, Feb. 11 at the Matlock Invitational in Lakeland, Fla. The two-day tournament will conclude the following day.
Hosted by Florida Southern College at the Lone Palm Course, the Bobcats look to improve on their eighth place finish from a year ago. When the tournament begins Monday, the Bobcats will have three All-Americans on the roster. Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.), Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) and Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) were selected among the nation’s best in 2012 and look to remain consistent in 2013. While Smith and Trocchio were Honorable Mentions to the All-American team, Garrett was selected for Third Team honors. Smith and Garrett also brought home All-Region honors last year, and Trocchio was the first Bobcat in history to be named to the National All-Freshman Team.
After the tournament in Lakeland, the Bobcats will head to Savannah, Ga. for the Pirate Invitational on Feb. 25 and 26 looking to repeat as champions from a year ago. From there, GC golf team travels to Valdosta, Ga. on Mar. 11 and 12 for the Southeastern Intercollegiate.
The Bobcat golf team will host its lone tournament of the season, the Bobcat Intercollegiate, March 18 and 19 at the Cuscowilla Golf Resort in Eatonton, Ga. The Bearcat Invitational will send the Bobcats to Greenwood, S.C. the following week, where they placed second in 2012.
The Peach Belt Championship will once again be played at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga. The action will take place April 20 and 21. The Bobcats placed third in 2012. The GC golf will be defending their NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championship May 6-8, which will be held at Howey In The Hills, Fla. The 2013 NCAA Championship will take place May 20-24 in Hershey, Pa. The golf team made an incredible run in 2012, before being ousted in the quarterfinals.
