#23 GC Golf to Host Bobcat Intercollegiate
EATONTON, Ga. - The Georgia College golf team and head coach Jimmy Wilson will host the Bobcat Intercollegiate beginning March 17. The tournament annually features one of the toughest Division II fields in the southeast and will be played at Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee.
The Bobcats will have a tough test, as this year's tournament will feature 10 top-25 teams in the Division II Golfstat Head-to-Head Rankings. Along with the top-10 squads the tournament will also feature seven Peach Belt Conference (PBC) teams.
The top team participating in the Bobcat Intercollegiate, and the top team in the GolfStat Head-to-Head rankings, is No. 1 Barry University. The tournament features four more top-10 teams: No. 6 Lynn University, No. 7 Armstrong Atlantic State University, No. 8 USC Aiken and No. 10 University of West Florida.
The tournament also features No. 12 Nova Southeastern University, No. 13 Columbus State University, No. 16 University of North Alabama, No. 21 Florida Southern College and the No. 23 host Bobcats.
Rounding out the rest of the field is Carson-Newman College, Clayton State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, Lander University, Rollins College, Valdosta State University and UNC Pembroke.
Last year at the Bobcat Intercollegiate, GC Golf placed 11th, as the tournament was won by Lynn with a total score of 854. Lynn finished six strokes ahead of a three-way tie for second between Armstrong, Nova Southeastern and USCA. The Bobcats ended the tournament with a score of 885. Last year the Bobcats were led by All-American Taylor Smith who shot 217 for the tournament to take 20th; the top individual for the 2013 tournament was Gus Wagoner of Armstrong who had a score of 208.
The Bobcat Invitational will have three total rounds of play starting with two March 17 and a final 18 holes March 18.
