Hats off to you! at Centennial Saturday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Bobcat Athletics will celebrate the first home Peach Belt Conference (PBC) double-header of the 2008-2009 season Saturday, Jan. 10 with the "Hats off to you!" best Bobcat hat spirit contest.
The Georgia College & State University Bobcat women's team (0-2 PBC, 5-4 overall) take on the Lander Lady Bearcats (2-1 PBC, 7-2 overall) at 2 p.m. at the Centennial Center. Directly after, the GCSU Bobcats men (1-1 PBC, 7-1 overall) take on the conference-leading Bearcats (3-0 PBC, 7-2 overall).
"Up tempo, aggressive defense and lights-out shooting is the best way to describe our Bobcat basketball teams," said Jimmy Wilson, associate director of athletics at Georgia College. "On most nights, the men's basketball game will put more points on the scoreboard, but this game may be different as the Lander Lady Bearcats have three games under their belt already where they have eclipsed the century mark."
"Hats off to you!" is an event during this conference doubleheader where everyone attending is asked to wear a GCSU or Bobcat hat to show school spirit. The person who wears the most original and creative hat will receive $40 in Brick Bucks at halftime of the men's game. Bobcat Athletics will offer free popcorn at the game for all fans.
"Hats off to you!" is the third event in the "One Team, One Spirit" campaign. Student organizations have been competing since Nov. 24 in the "Fan Frenzy" contest for a chance to win $100. "One Team, One Spirit" will continue at the next Saturday conference doubleheader Jan. 24 at 2 p.m.
"Let's show our school spirit!" Wilson said. "I promise you won't be disappointed in the effort or the atmosphere. These two games will leave you wanting more basketball. Watch out, our basketball games are infectious!"
