MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Senior guard Shaun Keaton (Albany, Ga.) of the Georgia College & State University men's basketball team (21-5, 11-5 PBC) was named the GCSU Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 1. This is the fourth honor for Keaton and the sixth for the Bobcat men's team this season.
Keaton averaged 22.5 points per game over two big wins this week, downing UNC Pembroke Wednesday and taking down No. 11 USC Aiken in overtime Saturday. Keaton has now scored 20-plus in four straight games. Wednesday at UNCP, Keaton hit three threes and was 7-for-11 from the line with five boards. The senior hit a big three with 12 seconds left to aid the Bobcats to an 80-78 win. Keaton hit 5-for-8 from downtown and 50 percent (8-16) overall with five more rebounds against USCA, leading the team with 25 points. Keaton now has nine 20-point games on the year.
The Bobcats begin the PBC Championship Tournament Friday, March 6 at 3 p.m. traveling to Aiken, S.C. to take on North Georgia.
