MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University men's basketball program and head coach Terry Sellers announced the signing of Derrick Zittrauer today (May 15).
Zittraurer comes to Milledgeville via South Forsyth High School in Cumming, Ga. where he played for former GCSU Assistant Coach David Sokol.
"Derrick is a 6-foot-8 forward with the potential to become an outstanding player in the Peach Belt Conference," said Sellers. "He has a good feel for the game and possesses good shot blocking ability. Derrick is a great fit academically and athletically here at GCSU."
Zittrauer averaged 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks per game. He broke his own school record with 93 blocks this past season, where he was named First Team 7-AAAAA All Region. He carries a 3.57 GPA with him to Georgia College.
The Bobcats are fresh off a 22-7 season in 2008-2009. GCSU made a trip back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006 and had its third 20-win season in the past four years. The Bobcats lose a trio of seniors including Shaun Keaton (2006-09) who was named First Team all-conference and First Team National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/NCAA All-Southeast Region.
