MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Despite a pair of losses last week, the Georgia College & State University men's basketball team (19-4, 12-2 PBC) kept slots in the most recent national and region polls, getting selected as the No. 23 team in the country and No. 3 in the Southeast Region.
This marks the fourth-straight week that Georgia College has appeared in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Rankings. Head coach Terry Sellers' Bobcats dropped nine national slots with the pair of losses, and are listed second among the pair of Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools in the top-25.
Augusta State University was listed at No. 5, after topping the Bobcats 84-67 last week. Arkansas Tech maintains the top spot with a 23-0 record, Southern Indiana is also 23-0 in the second spot.
The NCAA Southeast Region Poll was also released, as Georgia College slid one spot in the region's best 10. Four Peach Belt schools made this list, again headed by ASU in the top spot. Francis Marion University came in fifth, while the Falcons of the University of Montevallo are ninth.
Mount Olive College leapfrogged the Bobcats to take away the No. 2 slot. One place behind Georgia College was Catawba College, while FMU rounds out the top five. Limestone College and Anderson University took sixth and seventh, respectively, with Lincoln Memorial University nabbing the eighth slot. Behind the Falcons was Pfeiffer University.
This poll is used to determine the five at-large teams for the NCAA Tournament in March.
Both polls were released prior to Georgia College's 61-60 win at Georgia Southwestern State University Wednesday night. The Bobcats are back in action at the Centennial Center Saturday, Feb. 20 at 3:30 p.m. against Columbus State University.
