Bobcat Mens Hoops Named #17 in Nation, #3 in Region
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - After a pair of victories last week, head coach Terry Sellers' Georgia College & State University men's basketball team (21-4, 14-2 PBC) jumped six spots in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II National Poll, coming in at No. 17. The Bobcats stayed put in the NCAA Southeast Region Poll, holding down No. 3.
Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe Augusta State University climbed to No. 3 in the country, behind No. 1 Arkansas Tech and the University of Central Missouri.
In the region rankings, GCSU is second among the five PBC schools. Francis Marion University is No. 8, while the University of Montevallo is No. 9 and USC Aiken No. 10. Mount Olive College holds down the No. 2 slot behind the PBC's Augusta State and just ahead of the ‘Cats. The region poll determines the five at-large selections for the NCAA Tournament in March.
Both polls were released before Wednesday night's win over Montevallo.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 27 at 3:30 p.m., traveling to North Georgia for the final game of the regular season.
