MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University men’s basketball program and head coach Terry Sellers announced the signing of Royal Thomas Friday.
Royal comes to Milledgeville from LaGrange, Ga. where he played at LaGrange High School under head coach Mike Pauley, recently named the AAA coach of the year by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
This past season, Royal led the Grangers to a 31-1 record (LaGrange’s first 30-win season), a No. 1 state ranking, the Region 2AAA Championship, and the AAA State Championship game. Royal was selected Second Team All-State.
“Royal is 6-foot point guard who has the ability to be an outstanding floor general and defender,” said Sellers. “He plays extremely hard and will work to get better. He is a winner who comes from a strong high school program where they came within a few points of beating Columbia High School in the State finals. We are very excited Royal has decided to become a Bobcat.”
The Bobcats are fresh off a 22-6 season in 2009-10, winning the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) West Division title. Georgia College loses five Seniors including Graham Martin who was named first team all-conference and Ty Rowland who was a third team all-conference selection.
