GC Men Beat Columbus State for Homecoming, 74-64
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College men's basketball team (15-8, 9-6 PBC) picked up its sixth-straight victory, beating Columbus State University (11-13, 7-8 PBC) in GC's annual Homecoming game Saturday night at the Centennial Center.
Bobcat big man Reece Wiedeman (Suwanee, Ga.) the defending Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week, was impactful this evening putting in 23 points to go with 10 rebounds and two blocks. The performance marks the third double-double of the season for Wiedeman, and his third game with 20-plus points.
Both teams shot poorly in the defensive battle, as the Bobcats shot 38 percent (26-68), edging the Cougars' 36 percent (23-64).
The Bobcat big men controlled the paint 30-20, also taking advantage of turnovers to the tune of a 27-14 advantage in points-off-takeaways.
Steve Peterson's 12-point, 13-rebound double-double paced Columbus State, aided by 11 points each from Darius McKnight and Jarmarquis Steverson.
The win makes GC 9-6, good for a tie at second in the PBC West Division. The top two finishers get to host PBC Tournament opening-round games March 1.
The Bobcats play road games for the remainder of the regular season, heading to the University of Montevallo (15-9, 8-7 PBC) Wednesday, Feb. 23 for an 8:30 p.m. eastern start. The Falcons most recently lost 57-52 tonight at Clayton State University.
