MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Basketball team (1-1) picked up their first win of the young season Saturday, out-lasting Emmanuel College (0-2) 95-86 in day two of the Bobcat Crossover Classic at the Centennial Center.
The Georgia College defense was strong in the first half, holding Emmanuel to just 26 points and seven field goals en route to a 24-point advantage at the break, 50-26. As they did yesterday against the University of North Georgia, Emmanuel made some halftime adjustments and actually won the second frame 60-45. While the Lions forced overtime in yesterday's loss, Georgia College did just enough to close out the win.
Junior Isaac Thomas (Trion) had a monster game of 22 points and 12 rebounds, adding four assists and a pair of blocks. Twelve of his 22 came in the first half. The effort matches Thomas' career scoring high, set against the University of Montevallo last season.
Senior guard Desmond Mitchell-LaFlam (New Smyrna Beach, Florida) had 17 points, seven boards and five assists, while classmate Brice Booker (Atlanta) came off the bench to score 16, including 6-for-7 from the line to help ice the game late. Freshman Chapin Rierson (Calhoun) tallied 11 points, while sophomore Garrick DeBowles (Marietta) added 10.
The Bobcats out-shot the Lions 57 percent (35-62) to 44 percent (23-52) from the field. Emmanuel got back in the game with advantages in threes made (10-6) and free-throws made (30-19).
