GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) announced the CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams for men's basketball Thursday, with Georgia College junior Isaac Thomas (Trion) being selected to receive the honor.
Thomas has a GPA of 3.53 while majoring in accounting to earn a spot on the five-member team. He is the second Academic All-District Honoree in GC Men's Basketball history, joining Aaron Clark (2004-08) in 2007-08.
During the 2016-17 season Thomas was chosen to the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Men's Basketball All-Academic Team and continues to flourish on the court and in the classroom.
Thomas now moves on to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in March.
The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America recognizes four separate divisions – NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, and College Division.
The NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 DII and DIII Academic All-America teams program, are financially supporting the Division II and III Academic All-America program.
The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
