#4 Bobcats Lash #27 Lions 8-1

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The No. 4 Georgia College & State University men's tennis team (12-1) pounded No. 27 University of North Alabama 8-1 in opening day (March 24) of the White Sands Invitational. The Bobcat men's squad has now won 10 in a row.

The Bobcats were able to take two matches in doubles action against the Lions. The victories came via first and third doubles.

At first doubles, the duo of Justin Pickham (Armidale, Australia) and Erick Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) won 8-3 over Zac Bereznicki and Jan Miskos. Also, at third doubles the Bobcat team of Max Beliankou (Minsk, Belarus) and Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) took down the Lions' Carlos Cardenas and Clint Johnson 8-1.

However, the Georgia College twosome of Francis Yoshimoto (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Joao Casagrande (Sao Paulo, Brazil) fell 8-6 to Reed Pilling and Chris Sodemann.

In singles action, Siqueira defeated Miskos 6-2, 6-3 at first singles. At number two singles, Pickham almost blanked Bereznicki winning 6-0, 6-1.

Winning 10 straight singles matches is Georgia College's Yoshimoto. Yoshimoto beat Sodemann in straight 6-3 sets at third singles and improves to a very impressive 12-1 on the year.

Beliankou bounced back after losing his last match to defeat Cardenas 6-4, 2-6, 10-6. Beliankou moves to 10-3 on the 2009 season.

At fifth singles, Bernardes thwarted Pilling 6-3, 6-1. Bernardes is currently on a five-match winning streak after dropping his first three collegiate battles. Casagrande also defeated his opponent Johnson, by the score of 6-3, 6-1 at the number six singles slot.

Doubles and singles records will be posted following the last match of the White Sands Invitational.

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow for day two at the White Sands Invitational as they take on No. 9 University of West Florida.
