MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The rain and thunderstorms left the middle Georgia area but something was left behind, the Sea Warriors of No. 6 Hawaii Pacific University. After a nine-day layoff, the No. 4 Bobcats were unable to shake off the rust and lost 7-2 to the Sea Warriors earlier today (April 3), as GCSU's 10-match winning streak comes to a halt.
Georgia College was able to gain a victory in doubles action as the team of Justin Pickham (Armidale, Australia) and Erick Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) defeated Nikola Petrov and Daniel Luedi 8-4 at the first doubles slot. The Bobcat lead duo is now 12-1.
At second doubles, the Sao Paulo connection of Joao Casagrande and Francis Yoshimoto fell 8-4 to Aleksander Markov and Jan Hroch of Hawaii Pacific. Max Beliankou (Minsk, Belarus) and Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) were beat by the duo of Hendrik Bode and Sebastian Bader 8-2 at third doubles.
Siqueira won in straight 6-4 sets to defeat Petrov at first singles. A two-time All-American, Siqueira improves to 9-4 on the season.
At second singles, Pickham fought hard and came up short 7-6, 7-6 to Bode. Yoshimoto was unable to continue his winning streak as he fell 6-4, 6-1 to Anton Samuilau at third singles. Yoshimoto had won his last 10.
Beliankou went into the third frame again but lost to Luedi 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 at the fourth singles slot. At fifth singles Bernardes was defeated 6-1, 6-3 by Bader. Casagrande battled but was not able to get the victory as he lost 6-4, 6-2 to Markov.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, April 4 at 1 p.m. hosting SCAD at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
