MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University's sports information office has announced that Erick Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) of the No. 6 men's tennis team (13-2, 6-0 PBC) is the most recent recipient of GCSU's Athlete of the Week.
Siqueira went a perfect 4-0 this week, including the only two match victories for the Bobcats in a 7-2 loss to No. 6 Hawai'i Pacific University Friday (April 3). Siqueira beat Nikola Petrov 6-4, 6-4 at first singles, and teamed with Justin Pickham (Armidale, Australia) for a 9-8 win over the Sea Warrior first doubles duo. Against SCAD, Siqueira and Pickham got another 9-8 win, combined with a Siqueira victory over Jan Jensen 6-2, 6-4.
The senior was also ranked No. 6 in singles play in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Tuesday (April 7)., as well as picking up a No. 1 rank in doubles for the Southeast Region.
The Bobcats return to the courts Friday, April 10 to face Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe North Georgia on the road at 4:30 p.m.
