#11 Bobcats Devour Jaguars 6-3, Capture First Conference Win

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The No. 11 Georgia College & State University men's tennis team (4-2, 1-1 PBC) picked up its first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) victory Friday afternoon, winning at Augusta State University (5-3, 0-3 PBC) 6-3.  

First doubles featured the lone ranked battle of the dual match as the No. 21 pairing of Bernardo Fernandes and Henrique Boturao got the better of the No. 16 GCSU duo, Joao Casagrande (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France) 8-3.

Senior Giovane Nucci (Santa Catarina, Brazil) and freshman Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) fell 8-2 to the Jaguars' Jenner Stevenson and Jan Labas in second doubles. The Bobcats salvaged a point at third doubles, as Max Beliankou (Minsk, Belarus) and Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) took down Rafael Milhati and Guilherme Ferraz 8-3, cutting the Jaguar advantage to 2-1.

Slotted first in singles Leborgne bounced back, beating Stephens 6-3, 6-3, while Wadstein rebounded against Fernandes to a hard-fought victory going 0-6, 6-4 and 6-3. Beliankou won third singles over Boturao 6-4 and 6-4, being the only undefeated Bobcat for the day.

In the No. 4 singles spot, Bernardes lost another three-set marathon 4-6, 6-3, and 6-3 to Labas, while Nucci overwhelmed Ferraz in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Slotted sixth and competing in singles action for the first time this season, Casagrande outlasted Milhati 2-6, 7-6 and 6-3, as the Bobcats picked up the 6-3 win.

The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, Feb. 28 as they host PBC opponent No. 17 USC Aiken at 1 p.m. at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
