GREENWOOD, S.C. – The No. 5-seed Georgia College men's tennis squad (11-8) fell to the No. 1-seed Armstrong Pirates (23-0), 5-1 in the second round of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament Saturday.
GC's lone victory of the day came in the No. 2 doubles spot when Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) and Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) took down the No. 16 pair of Sven Lalic and Pedro Scocuglia, 8-6. Andersson and Bernardes tie Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France) and Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) for the team lead in doubles wins with 13.
The No. 9 pairing of Leborgne and Wadstein were beaten by the No. 1 ranked Mikk Irdoja and Georgi Rumenov, 8-2 in a ranked battle. Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) and Tyler Franks (Greensboro, Ga.) followed suit dropping their match 8-2 to Eudaldo Bonet and Matus Mydla.
In singles, No. 24 Leborgne fell in straight sets to No. 1 Rumenov, 6-0, 6-1 and Schubert dropped his match in straight sets at the No. 3 spot against No. 32 Lalic, 6-0, 6-3. At the No. 6 slot Daniel Regan took down Franks, 6-2, 6-0 for the eventual 5-1 victory.
The Georgia College men now wait for seeding in the upcoming NCAA Regional Tournament, to be announced Tuesday, April 24.
