HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The No. 18 Georgia College men's tennis team (5-3) took on Florida Tech (2-3) Monday afternoon, the Bobcats nearly running the table in singles play, coming away with a 6-3 victory.
Senior Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) and freshman Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) paired together for the first time in the No. 1 doubles slot. They would stay close but fell to Nicolas Clerc and Patrick Hernandez 8-5.
Seniors Andreas Ainalides (Heusenstamm, Germany) and Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) paired together in doubles for the first time. The Georgia College duo came away with the 8-4 victory over Riley Lorenz and Barry Dylewski to put the Bobcats on the board.
Heading into singles play down 2-1, the Bobcats quickly erased the deficit and jumped into the lead.
Finishing first in the No. 3 slot for the first time this year, Hass made extremely quick work of Lorenz 6-1, 6-1. Ainalides worked through Fieldsend quickly in the first set, before coming away with the 6-2, 7-6 victory in the second spot, giving Georgia College a 3-2 lead.
Schubert took down Leskovar in straight sets at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2, putting the Bobcats one win away.
No. 47 Wadstein played in the top slot against Clerc, needing three sets but the Bobcat senior came away with the 7-6, 4-6, 7-5 victory, and the team win.
Freshman Mattia Campus (Rome, Italy) played in the No. 5 slot and took down Hernandez 7-5, 6-4.
Andersson faced off against fellow senior Dylewski for the No. 6 slot. Each player took a set 6-4 before Dylewski squeaked out a 10-7 win in the third set.
The Bobcats return to the court Wednesday, March 6 at 3:30 p.m. when they take on No. 32 Wingate University in a neutral site match in Augusta, Ga.
