SUMTER, S.C. - The biggest fall tennis tournament got underway Friday and Georgia College senior Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) was ready for action. He played two matches at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regionals Friday and came away with two victories.

The first match pitted Andersson against Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe Arnaud Hol of Francis Marion University. Andersson would win the first set 6-4, dropping the second set 3-6. The match would go the distance, as Andersson was able to win the deciding set 7-5.

His day wasn’t over there, as he had more to play in the round of 64 against nationally-ranked Felipe Friedrich of North Georgia. Andersson took the momentum he had built and defeated No. 43 Friedrich in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. He’ll be back on the court Saturday at 11:30 a.m. playing in the round of 32.

After a bye, Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) was matched up against another member of the North Georgia team, Rodrigo Magan and was able to win fairly easily 6-2, 6-1.

The other members of the Bobcat men’s tennis team were not as successful Friday. Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) drew the top nationally-ranked player, Georgi Rumenov of Armstrong and lost 6-0, 6-0. Tyler Franks (Greensboro, Ga.) went up against Benedikt Wilde of Columbus State University and fell 6-2, 6-2.

Two of GC’s three freshmen saw action today in the ‘B’ Flight, as Alex Nolley (Cumming, Ga.) would lose in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 to Limestone College’s Paulo Fernandez. While classmate Kenneth Cazort (Macon, Ga.) would battle back in the second set, he would also lose 6-2, 6-4 against Eimon Heywood from Francis Marion.

Andersson and Schubert will continue winner’s bracket action in the ‘A’ Flight tomorrow, and freshman Taylor Powell (Martinez, Ga.) will get started in ‘B’ Flight, while the rest will get consolation bracket matches as well as doubles action.
