by Andrew Gahwiler, sports information student assistant
SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its Division II Preseason Poll Tuesday, Nov. 12 for the upcoming 2013 season. The ITA has the Bobcat men at the No. 11 spot to start out the spring season.
Sitting atop the preseason poll is Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opponent No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic State University and coming in at the No. 2 slot is Barry University. Barry is the NCAA Division II National Champions from a season ago, defeating Armstrong Atlantic 5-4 in the finals.
The Bobcats are No. 11 in the national ranking to begin the preseason just behind Columbus State University at No. 10. Regionally Georgia College sits at No. 4, behind Armstrong, Lander University, and Columbus State. The men's tennis team finished the 2013 season 19-7 overall and 7-3 in the PBC, good for a No. 11 ranking to end the year.
The ITA has sophomore Yannick Haas (Troisdorf, Germany) ranked No. 16 in the Southeast Region, being the only Bobcat inside the top-20. A season ago, Haas carried a 16-6 singles record and a 14-11 doubles mark and was named PBC Freshman of The Year.
