#18 GC Men’s Tennis Team Convincing Over #22 USI, 7-2

MACON, Ga. – The No. 18 Georgia College men's tennis team (5-2, 2-1 PBC) won a non-conference match against No. 22 University of Southern Indiana (9-2, 0-0 GLVC), 7-2 Monday at a neutral site in Macon, Ga. The Bobcats went 2-1 in doubles play and 5-1 in singles competition.

The Bobcats took a 2-0 lead with the No. 2 and No. 3 Georgia College doubles pairs, but the Screaming Eagles cut the deficit in half entering singles play with a win at No. 1 doubles.

Sophomore Taylor Powell (Martinez, Ga.) and freshman Anton Waern (Taby, Sweeden) won 8-3 at second doubles against Joe Bray and Josh Walden. The third doubles team of freshman Kyle Kinsler (Suwanee, Ga.) and Mattia Campus (Concorezzo, Italy) also won 8-3 against Joel Stern and Dimitri Stocker to put Georgia College up 2-0. The Bobcats' first doubles pair of sophomore Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) and senior Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) dropped their set to Jack Joyce and Santiago Lopez 8-6, to allow Southern Indiana to enter singles play down 2-1.

After the Bobcats won at sixth singles, the Screaming Eagles won at third singles to make it a 3-2 match before Georgia College would take the last four for the 7-2 final.

Kinsler restored Georgia College's two-point lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kyle Landrum in the sixth spot. Joyce made it interesting with a win over Powell to cut the match at 3-2 in favor of the Bobcats with a pair of 6-1 sets.

Georgia College would take the final four matches starting with No. 1 singles as Haas beat Bray 6-2, 6-0. Schubert's 6-3, 6-2 win over Lopez in the second spot put the Bobcats up 5-2 and clinched the match.

Waern beat Stern 6-1, 6-4 in the fourth spot and Campus put away Walden 6-3, 7-6 at the fifth position to complete play.

The men's team return to action tomorrow, March 11 at 3 p.m. against Concord University (3-2, 1-0 ME) at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
