AIKEN, S.C. – As they have all year, the senior duo of Tyler Mattix (Snellville, Ga.) and Dan Horseman (Cohutta, Ga.) led the way for the Bobcats at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championships in Aiken, S.C. Each earned All-PBC Second Team honors, leading GC to a fifth place overall finish.
Mattix blistered the 8K course in just 27:08, good for ninth place overall. He finished less than a second behind Flagler's Corey Mundy.
Coming in a few paces behind Mattix was classmate Horseman, who took 14th place with an impressive time of 27:25. The finishes mark the first time for GC men's cross country with two All-PBC runners since 2007.
Senior Colin Conroy (Dacula, Ga.) remained consistent as he was the whole season, finishing 21st for the Bobcats. His time of 27:47 was among his best of the 2011 campaign. Rob Manning (Lawrenceville, Ga.) continued his strong late season push, coming in 30th place with a time of 28:25.
Adding to the scoring for the Bobcats was sophomore Philip Laskey (Marietta, Ga.), coming in 33rd. Laskey finished the race in 28:42.
GC will head to the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship in Charlotte, N.C. Saturday, Nov. 5 to tackle some of the toughest competition in the country. The Bobcats finished ninth among that field in 2010.
