MARTINEZ, Ga. - Senior righty Mandy Chandler (Covington, Ga.) of the No. 20 Georgia College & State University softball team (10-7, 3-1 PBC) has earned Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Feb. 22. This is the first such honor for Chandler and the second weekly conference honor for the Bobcat softball team this season.
Chandler went 2-0 at the Charger Chillout, not allowing an earned run in 23.2 innings pitched. She began the tournament with a full 10 innings pitched in a 3-2 win over the University of North Alabama, striking out 20 batters, three shy of the NCAA record she set and only the fourth 20k performance in PBC history. She pitched five innings of three-hit ball without a decision against Lynn University and had 7.1 innings of relief work with 16 strikeouts in a 5-4 win over Missouri-St. Louis. Chandler struck out 41 batters in her 23.2 innings, allowing only 11 hits and six walks.
Chandler becomes the first PBC Pitcher of the Week for Bobcat sofball since she last won the honor April 14, 2008. This is the 10th PBC Pitcher of the Week honor for Bobcat softball all-time.
The Bobcats return to action Friday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. kicking off the Catawba Tournament against Davis & Elkins College.
