Bobcat Softball Lands Three on PBC All-Academic Teams
AUGUSTA, Ga. - With two first team selections and a second team nod, Georgia College & State University softball (31-22) put three players on the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) All-Academic Softball Teams, the conference office announced today (May 5).
Senior pitcher Mandy Chandler (Covington, Ga.) and senior shortstop Lindsey Swanson (Kennesaw, Ga.) both made the first squad, while senior third baseman Kori Pickowitz (Keller, Texas) earned a spot on the second team.
Swanson had the best GPA for GCSU and tied for the top average in the conference at 3.97 in psychology with a business minor. Chandler, a four-time All-PBC pick and 2008 All-American for her work on the field, owns a 3.52 in marketing. Pickowitz is a health education major, brandishing a 3.72 GPA.
The team is part of a new season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieve a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) complete at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.
