MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Daktronics All-Southeast Region Softball teams were announced today (May 12) with Georgia College & State University outfielder Sherquita Bostick (Florence, S.C.) taking player of the year honors. Bostick and pitcher Mandy Chandler (Covington, Ga.) each earned spots on the first team.

The 2009 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Year as well, Bostick hit .361 this season with 13 home runs and 43 RBI. She also scored 56 runs and slugged .761. She earned spots on both the NCAA Southeast Regional and PBC All-Tournament teams.

Chandler was 27-15 in the circle this season with a paltry 1.80 ERA. The senior struck out a PBC record 417 batters over her 280 2/3 innings this year, with opponents hitting just .181. She was a Daktronics Second Team All-American a year ago.

The Daktronics national award programs are voted on and maintained by the region's sports information directors. Both Chandler and Bostick both move on to the All-America ballot, to be voted on and released in the coming weeks.

Bostick and Chandler gave the PBC nine players among the two teams. The Bobcats have now had five total players chosen to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region teams in the two years of the award program.

The Bobcats went 32-24 in 2009, making their fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, all coming under head coach Ginger Chaffinch. Georgia College took second in the PBC Standings, matching its highest finish. Chandler set the PBC mark in single-season strikeouts as well as career wins and whiffs this season, and stands at 1,207, good for fifth in NCAA Division II history. The 417 this season ranks ninth in the NCAA Division II recordbooks.
