Bobcat Softball’s Bostick Named to Daktronics All-America Squad

>>>Full List

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Senior centerfielder Sherquita Bostick (Florence, S.C.) of the Georgia College & State University softball team was named Daktronics Third Team All-American, the organization announced.

The 2009 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Year as well, Bostick hit .361 this season with 13 home runs and 43 RBI. She also scored 56 runs and slugged .761. This season, she earned spots on both the NCAA Southeast Regional and PBC All-Tournament teams.

The honor is her second career All-America trophy after being named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) second team in 2008. Bostick's two PBC Player of the Year honors and All-America trophies are particularly impressive, considering she played just two seasons in Division II after transferring from Santa Fe Community College.

Bobcat softball has now taken home three Daktronics All-America trophies all-time, one coming in each of the last three seasons under head coach Ginger Chaffinch. Pitcher Mandy Chandler (Covington, Ga.) was second team in 2008, while Keidra Baitey (2006-07) earned third team honors at third base in 2007.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is maintained and voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Bobcats went 32-24 in 2009, making their fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, all coming under Chaffinch. Georgia College took second in the PBC Standings, matching its highest finish. Chandler set the PBC mark in single-season strikeouts as well as career wins and whiffs this season, and stands at 1,207, good for fifth in NCAA Division II history. The 417 this season ranks ninth in the NCAA Division II recordbooks.
