MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - A four-year starter at shortstop for the Lady Bobcats, Georgia College & State University alumnus Diana Baruffa (2003-06) was named head softball and women's soccer coach for the Georgia Military College junior college programs, athletics director Bert Williams announced.
Baruffa was the assistant coach at GMC for the past two seasons, working under former Georgia College assistant softball coach Kelly Florkowski.
"Diana was a significant contributor to the growth and success of both programs and will look to continue the positive momentum both programs have enjoyed over the last two years," said Williams. "In addition to the great job she has performed here the last two years, Diana brings an impressive background as a player and coach in both sports."
Baruffa was on both of the GCSU College World Series participants first in 2003 as a freshman and again in 2006 as a senior. Over her four seasons, the Lady Bobcats were 144-57 with two NCAA South Atlantic Region Championships.
She was a two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team All-South Atlantic Region honoree at shortstop, and was named to the All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) team in 2006 and 2004 as well as the PBC All-Tournament Team in 2003.
Her 211 career hits ranks first all-time at GCSU, with both her 119 runs and 110 RBI placing third.
The GCSU Department of Athletics sponsors 10 NCAA Division II athletic programs over three seasons. As a Division II program, GCSU prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the Bobcats' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
