MARTINEZ, Ga. - On the strength of four-straight seasons in the NCAA Tournament and a 32-24 season a year ago, the Georgia College & State University softball team was selected third in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Preseason poll, as chosen by the league's head coaches.
The Bobcats earned one first place vote and three second-place nods as part of their point total to tie with Augusta State University for the third slot. North Georgia was chosen first, while Francis Marion University holds down the second slot. Armstrong Atlantic State University rounds out the top five.
The Bobcats took second in the PBC a year ago, matching their best program finish. The ‘Cats will rely on plenty of talented newcomers and game-tested seniors in Kayla Smith (Lexington, S.C.) and Allison Schwimer (Cumming, Ga.) as well as returning All-PBC sophomore catcher Anna Parker (Columbus, Ga.).
The season begins Friday, Feb. 5 at 4:30 p.m., taking on Albany State University at the GSW Tournament in Americus, Ga. The Bobcat home opener is slated for Feb. 10 against Queens (N.C.) University at the Peeler Complex.
