Bobcats Sweep Saturday at Charger Chillout

DECATUR, Ala. – The Georgia College softball team (4-10) swept their first doubleheader of the young season, taking down Florida Tech University and the University of Southern Indiana Saturday at the Charger Chillout Tournament.

In game one, junior Sabrina Chandler (Covington, Ga.) threw a complete game for the 'Cats, allowing just one run on seven hits to top Florida Tech.

Offensively, the Bobcats got a great game from catcher Anna Parker (Columbus, Ga.) who went 2-for-3 with a home run and pair of RBI. Her two-run blast is all Georgia College would need to secure the 2-1 victory over Florida Tech.

In game two, the Bobcats used an amazing offensive surge en route to a 9-0 victory over Southern Indiana in five innings.

Freshman Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) chipped in nicely, going 2-for-3 on the day with a triple. Senior Brandie Monroe (Savannah, Ga.) also went 2-for-3, driving in one.

GC really opened it up in the fifth inning as Okvist and classmate Alex Duvall (Douglasville, Ga.) ripped back-to-back triples to extend the lead.

Senior Kati Pickowitz (Keller, Texas) added to the barrage in her best game of the season, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Parker continued her great day at the plate, adding a triple and two RBI to her first game totals.

On the mound, freshman Chelsie Huffman (Powder Springs, Ga.) picked up the first win of her career in impressive fashion, shutting-out USI. She scattered four hits and struck out four in the process.

The Bobcats will look to take this momentum into tomorrow as they round out their games at the Charger Chillout Tournament in Decatur, Ala. GC will take on Barry University at 11 a.m. before facing-off against tournament host No. 9 University of Alabama-Huntsville at 3 p.m.
