MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (7-24) lost another heartbreaker in game one Sunday afternoon at the Peeler Complex, 1-0 to Carson-Newman College (17-8-1). GC also fell in the second game of the doubleheader, 6-2.
The Bobcats received a great pitching performance from junior Sabrina Chandler (Covington, Ga.), who threw a complete game allowing just one run. Chandler (4-10) struck out four and scattered just five hits in the process.
In game two on the day, Georgia College rallied to get the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh frame but were unable to capitalize, leading in part to the 6-2 defeat.
Third baseman Maggie Davis (Roswell, Ga.) continued to stay hot for the Bobcats as she went 2-for-4 in the game.
Starter Haley Burnett (Columbus, Ga.) went 4 2/3 innings allowing five runs and falling to 1-8. At the plate she went 1-for-2 with a RBI and a run.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the story of the day was the brilliant pitching from Eagle starter Mary Shealy who threw two complete games and picked up two wins to improve her record to 14-6 on the season.
The Bobcats will hit the road for a crucial Peach Belt Conference (PBC) doubleheader at Georgia Southwestern State University Thursday, March 17 beginning at 4 p.m.
