Davis’ Heroics Propel Bobcats over Braves

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (10-27, 5-5 PBC) remained .500 in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Sunday afternoon, as they split a doubleheader with UNC Pembroke (15-15, 3-5 PBC). The Bobcats won the first game 5-4 before dropping the second game 3-2 in extra innings.
The Bobcats used a four run seventh inning to propel themselves to victory in game one of the doubleheader.
Freshman Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) got things going in the final frame with a single up the middle. After stealing second, classmate Lindsey Conway (Madison, Ga.) drove in Okvist with a single of her own.
Junior righty Sabrina Chandler (Covington, Ga.) would finish off a brilliant compete game performance with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh. She gave up just three earned runs on the game, while scattering nine hits and striking out two.
Game two was equally as close, with the Braves winning in walk-off fashion in extra innings.
Burnett (1-10) was the hard luck loser, as she went for a complete game, surrendering just one earned run and eight hits.
The 'Cats continued to rely on a pair of freshman, as Okvist went 2-for-4, scoring both of GC's runs and Conway also added a couple hits going 2-for-3 with a RBI.
With just ten games remaining on the 2011 season slate, Georgia College remains in the hunt for the PBC playoffs at 5-5. The Bobcats will look to improve on that conference mark Tuesday, March 22 when travel to take on No. 4 North Georgia beginning at 4 p.m.
