MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College softball team and head coach Jamie Madewell-Grodecki would like to welcome new pitching coach, Mandy Chandler, to the Bobcat coaching staff. Chandler was a two-time All-American pitcher for Georgia College.
“We are very excited to be working with someone who brought so much to Georgia College athletics,” said Grodecki. “She is going to bring her experience to the team. She has had so much success that she will be sharing with us. We can not wait for her to be a role model for these girls, and show us the tradition of Georgia College Athletics.”
When she was playing with the Bobcats, Chandler made the 2009 All-Peach Belt Conference First Team. Also in 2009, she was named a NFCA All-American, Georgia College’s Female Athlete of the Year and made the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team.
Chandler holds the record at Georgia College for the most victories in a season, the most pitching appearances and most innings pitched. Chandler is also first with 161 pitching appearances, 127 games started, 101 complete games, 38 shutouts, 929 1/3 innings pitched, 97 victories and 1207 strikeouts. She is second in school history with a 1.48 career ERA. She also holds the Division II NCAA record for the most strikeouts in a game with 23.
“I’m excited to be home,” said Chandler. “I can’t wait to pass the tradition forward. I love Georgia College and am so eager to be back out here with the softball girls.”
Chandler spent part of this past summer pitching professionally for MOSCA Macerata in Italy. She went 7-4 including four shutouts in 11 appearances, stretching over 71 1/3 innings while recording 101 strikeouts.
Chandler’s responsibilities will consist of pitching coach, instructing individual workouts, recruiting and helping in the office.
