MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Playing its first road contests of the 2012 season, the Georgia College softball squad (2-4) split day one of action at the Eckerd College Spring Invitational Saturday. The Bobcats lost to Nova Southeastern University (3-4) 4-0, then rebounded with a 9-5 win over the host school Eckerd College (2-1).
In game one, Laura Saladrigas held the Bobcat bats in check, scattering four hits and three walks over the complete-game shutout. Senior righthander Haley Burnett (Columbus, Ga.) was the hard-luck loser (1-1) tossing all seven while allowing three earned runs and fanning two.
Trailing 5-1 going into the sixth, GC rallied with a seven-run inning, powered by the Gallucci grand slam and Okvist triple.
The top four hitters in the GC order went a combined 9-for-15 with five RBI and six runs. Okvist was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, with Gallucci going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
Senior Sabrina Chandler (Covington, Ga.) got the win (1-1) in relief, going three innings of no-hit work, fanning a pair.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Feb. 11 at 11 a.m., taking on No. 19 University of Tampa, followed by a 1:30 p.m. bout with Florida Tech.
