DECATUR, Ala. – The Georgia College (7-9) offense erupted for 23 hits and 14 runs in two games Saturday afternoon at the 2012 Charger Chillout, dropping the Tritons of the University of Missouri-St. Louis (1-2) 9-1 in five innings after a heartbreaking 6-5 extra inning loss to No. 11 Rollins College (7-3).
The Bobcats piled on seven early runs in game two of the doubleheader, scoring five in the first and a pair in the second.
The top of the lineup seemed to be clicking as sophomore Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Mikayla Sparks (Macon, Ga.) and Kelsea Martin (Dacula, Ga.) each added a hit and run, respectively.
Haley Burnett (Columbus, Ga.) was fantastic on the mound once again, allowing one run on three hits in four innings of work.
Kelsey Edmonson (Sandy Springs, Ga.) would finish things out in the circle giving up no runs on no hits for the final two frames.
The GC victory came after a tough 6-5 extra inning loss at the hands of No. 11 Rollins College.
Dani Gallucci (Orlando, Fla.) kept the Bobcats in the game at the plate and in the circle, pitching five innings of relief allowing no earned runs and striking out four. She also went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run scored.
Gallucci was well protected in the lineup as Burnett went 2-for-4 behind her and Martin went 2-for-4 in front of her. The trio accounted for four of GC's five runs.
Unfortunately, Georgia College was unable to capitalize on the international tiebreaker in the eighth inning while the Tars scored the clincher on a bases loaded wild pitch.
Scheduling details for tomorrow's doubleheader are being discussed as inclement weather is on the way.
