MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball program and head coach Jamie Grodecki are pleased to announce the release of the 2012 schedule. The Bobcats finished 15-35 in 2011. Nine of the Bobcats’ 15 wins came within the Peach Belt Conference (PBC), as GC posted a strong finish to the season.
“It seems as though we will once again start the year off with a pretty tough schedule, but I expect this will only have us more prepared for our very competitive conference play,” said coach Grodecki. “We will be travelling quite a bit, but I am very happy with the amount of home games we will be hosting this spring. Along with our home games we have added our first annual GC Round Robin. It is always nice to kick off the year in front of your home crowd. The goal for this season is to get back to the conference tourney and give ourselves a chance to compete for the title.”
The Bobcats start off the 2012 stanza hosting the first annual GC Softball Tournament at the Peeler Complex. GC plays host to Queens University in a doubleheader Saturday Feb. 4, starting at 1 p.m. Sunday Feb. 5, the Bobcats play Catawba College in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
After alternating away, home, away the Bobcats come back to the friendly confines of the Peeler Complex for a 14-game homestand. During this stretch the ‘Cats play their first PBC doubleheader, hosting Francis Marion University Sunday Feb. 26, for a noon start. The Bobcats also match up against Georgia Southwestern State University and Flagler College in a doubleheader, Sunday Feb. 11 (2 p.m.) and Thursday Feb. 15 (3 p.m.).
The Bobcats then rattle off eight-straight conference games, traveling to Augusta State University, UNC Pembroke and Armstrong, followed by a home doubleheader against USC Aiken. The stretch starts with their first conference road challenge in Augusta Feb. 17, a doubleheader set for a 1 p.m. start and ends at home against USC Aiken March 25, starting at 2 p.m.
The Bobcats then travel on an eight-game road stint from March 27 to April 10. The Bobcats finish out the season at home against PBC foe Lander University April 13 in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
