CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Georgia College softball team (4-2) lost their first two games of the season Friday afternoon, dropping a pair of games at the Triton Spring Invitational. The Bobcats lost game one against Nova Southeastern University (4-1) 4-0 and fell to host Eckerd College (4-1) in the final at-bat in game two 6-5.

Marissa Boyette (Marietta, Ga.) held Nova scoreless through three innings but would surrender three runs in the top of the fourth. Abi LeRoy (Dublin, Ga.) went the rest of the way for the Bobcats, holding the Sharks to just one run.

LeRoy and Frankie Walls (Dahlonega, Ga.) led the Bobcat offense, each going 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Bobcats would threaten in the bottom of the seventh with the first two runners reaching base, but Jennie Von Doellen would finish the complete game shutout and give Nova the 4-0 win. Boyette (2-1) took the loss in four innings of work, allowing three runs on three hits.

The Bobcats would get right back on the field less than one hour later, this time facing-off against Eckerd.

The Georgia College bats would strike first, scoring three runs in the top of the third inning. LeRoy knocked in Natalie Bellantoni (Oviedo, Fla. ) with a single up the middle and Kelsea Martin (Dacula, Ga.) followed her with a two-run double, scoring Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) and LeRoy.

Defense would do the Bobcats in as the Tritons plated four runs in the top of the sixth inning, none earned. Of the six scores allowed by the Bobcats only one was earned.

The Bobcats would head into the top of the seventh down 5-3, tying the game in quick order. Kristen Humphries (Columbus, Ga.) would reach base to start the inning, followed by a LeRoy single. The LeRoy single scored Humphries and an error on the play allowed LeRoy herself to score the game-tying run.

The Bobcats would head to the bottom of the seventh with the score tied 5-5. Georgia College was unable to force extra innings however, as the Tritons pushed across the winning run with a single up the middle by Kristen Schurr. LeRoy (2-1) took the loss in game two, allowing just one earned run over five innings, fanning two.

LeRoy led the offense for the second game in a row, going 3-for-4 at the plate while scoring a pair of runs and also knocking in a pair.

Freshmen Danielle Knight (Dudley, Ga.) and Kristen Brooks (Brunswick, Ga.) each had a pair of hits in the game. Okvist added her fifth steal on the year.

The Bobcats will return to the field Saturday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. when they face off against No. 19 Barry University. They will also face off against Florida Tech at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
