CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Georgia College softball team (6-2) pulled off a pair of impressive wins Saturday afternoon at the Triton Spring Invitational, taking down No. 19 Barry University (5-2) 5-2 and adding a 7-4 victory over Florida Tech (2-5).
Freshman Abi LeRoy (Dublin, Ga.) and senior Dani Gallucci (Orlando, Fla.) led the Bobcats offensively against Barry. LeRoy went 2-for-4 with a triple while knocking in a run and scoring a pair. Gallucci went 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored a run.
The Bobcats scored three runs in the top of the first inning and proving to be all Marisa Boyette (Marietta, Ga.) needed. Boyette (3-1) scattered eight hits through seven innings, allowing just two runs, one of which was earned. She struck out six Barry hitters.
In game two, LeRoy would continue her hot streak, going 3-for-4 at the plate while driving in a run and also scoring a pair. She pulled double duty against Florida Tech, getting the start in the circle for the Bobcats. LeRoy (3-1) allowed four runs while going the distance.
Whitney Horton (Acworth, Ga.) had her best game as a Bobcat as the junior transfer went 2-for-4 at the plate, knocking in three runs. Her biggest hit came during the four-run outburst in the top of the fifth inning, knocking a single up the middle to score LeRoy and Kristen Brooks (Brunswick, Ga.).
The Bobcats will conclude their tournament weekend Sunday morning with games against Lynn University and Florida Southern College.
