Bobcats Blow Away Tornados, 5-2 and 6-2

BREVARD, N.C. – The Georgia College softball team (28-12) returned to the field against Brevard College (13-21) after two different sets of games were postponed in the last week. The Bobcats scored three runs in the eighth inning to win 5-2 in game one and came away with the 6-2 victory in game two.

Senior Dani Gallucci (Orlando, Fla.) scattered nine hits over the eight inning complete game. She improved her record to 10-4 while allowing two runs.

The Bobcats scored a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings, before the Tornados tied the game in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

The Bobcats quickly tied three hits together to score three runs in the eighth inning. Kristen Humphries (Columbus, Ga.) started things off with a double to centerfield, scoring Taylor Campbell (Warner Robbins, Ga.). Freshman Kristen Brooks (Brunswick, Ga.) capped the inning with a single to bring in Gallucci. Gallucci took the ball and closed the door for the win in the bottom of the eighth.

Marisa Boyette (Marietta, Ga.) started game two and went four innings while allowing a single hit. Abi LeRoy (Dublin, Ga.) went the final three inning while allowing two hits and two unearned runs. Boyette earned the win, giving her 13 on the year, which places her fourth in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). LeRoy earned her first save of the year, making her the fourth Bobcat pitcher to earn a save.

The Bobcat offense was working from top to bottom, led by Humphries. The sophomore outfielder hit her third home run of the season, tying her for the team lead with Gallucci. Humphries finished the doubleheader 3-for-6 with a double to go with her home run.

Lacey Najafi (Suwanee, Ga.) went 3-for-4 while knocking in two runs while Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of triples.

The Bobcats will remain on the road to take on No. 19 Columbus State University Wednesday, April 3.
