Offensive Outbursts Leads to a Pair of Senior Day Wins, 9-8 and 8-5

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – No. 21 Georgia College Softball (34-12, 16-4 PBC) faced off against Augusta State University Friday evening, with the Bobcat offense in full force as they earned a sweep for Senior Day at the Peeler Complex.

The wins give GC Softball an eight-game winning streak and victories in 16 of their last 17.

The Bobcats jumped to a lead with Kristen Brooks (Brunswick, Ga.) doubling to bring in Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) and then a Taylor Campbell (Warner Robbins, Ga.) single  plating Brooks.

The Jaguars put two runs on the board in the second inning and another four in the third.

The Bobcat offense exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth, capped by a Dani Gallucci (Orlando, Fla.) single to bring in Campbell and Kristen Humphries (Columbus, Ga.).

After the Jaguars scored two in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead again, the Bobcats tied the game with a Campbell single bringing in Brooks.

Pitchers for both teams put up four innings of scoreless softball. The Bobcats broke the stalemate in the bottom of the 10th as Gallucci led off the inning with a single and came around to score on an Okvist double over the head of the rightfielder.

Abi LeRoy (Dublin, Ga.) earned the win (5-3) after 5 2/3 innings of relief. LeRoy held the Jaguars to only two hits and three walks.

The bats for both teams remained hot in the second game, as the Jaguars pushed three runs across the plate in the first inning and the Bobcats answered with four of their own. The inning was highlighted by a Campbell double that scored Brooks and LeRoy.

The Bobcats added to their lead with another four runs in the third inning. The Bobcats had already scored one run and loaded the bases when LeRoy ripped a double off the fence in right-center field to drive in three.

Gallucci earned her 13th win of the season (13-4), going 5 2/3 innings in relief. She struck out five and walked three while only allowing three hits.

The Bobcats will finish the regular season Tuesday, April 16 at 2 p.m. when they travel to No. 3 Armstrong.
