Gallucci Named Bobcat Athlete of the Week for Fifth Time

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – For her efforts in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament senior Dani Gallucci (Orlando, Fla.) of the No. 24 Georgia College softball team (36-15) has been named Bobcat Athlete of the Week for the fifth time during the 2013 season. Gallucci now sits tied with Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) of GC women's basketball for the most times honored during the 2012-13 school year.

"I am very pleased with how Dani's senior year has gone," said head coach Jamie Grodecki. "She has been a great asset for us on the mound, and as a leader for a young group of girls. I hope she has set the tone for those to follow in her footsteps here at Georgia College."

Gallucci threw 25 1/3 innings last week, make four starts and totaling three complete games. She posted an ERA of 2.76 on the week, striking out 15 batters while walking seven.

She finished the week with a 2-2 record, winning the quarterfinal and semifinal matches to help the Bobcats advance to the PBC Championship game for the first time since 2009. She also hit her team-leading fourth home run of the year against USC Aiken, tying the game at the time.

Gallucci and the Bobcats now await the NCAA Regional announcements, as they'll be vying for an at-large bid and first regional appearance since 2009. The NCAA Regional Tournaments are set to begin May 10.
