Boyette Snags Second PBC Freshman of the Week Honor

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Marisa Boyette (Marietta, Ga.) continues to impress during her freshman campaign for the Georgia College softball team (22-11, 5-3 PBC). Boyette received her second Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Freshman of the Week award for her performance in the week ending Sunday, March 10.

The Marietta native appeared in three games, winning two and earning a save in the other. She finished the week with a 0.95 ERA, racking up 18 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings while allowing five hits and two earned runs. Her best appearance came against Young Harris College. When Boyette entered the game against the Mountain Lions the Bobcats were already down 3-0 and still without an out in the first inning. Boyette retired the side and kept them from scoring again, giving up only two hits in seven innings with two walks and 10 strikeouts as the Bobcats came away with the 6-3 victory.

Boyette is now third in the PBC in wins (10), ninth in strikeouts (74) and her ERA ranks 14th at 2.33. She’s been even more impressive in conference play, as her 19 strikeouts ranks second best, her ERA of 1.84 is 12th best and opponents are hitting only .179 against her (seventh in the PBC).

The Bobcats return to the field Wednesday, March 13 at 4 p.m. for an away game against PBC foe Lander University. They’ll return to the Peeler Complex Saturday, March 16 at 4 p.m. to take on UNC Pembroke.
