MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team may not play their first game until Feb. 2, but the team is keeping busy during the off-season. In addition to their normal practices and scrimmages the team recently assisted at the Georgia College 11th Annual Potato Drop.

Every member of the softball team was on hand Saturday morning from 9-11 a.m. as they helped organize and load potatoes into trucks to be distributed to charities and churches throughout the community. The Bobcats and the rest of the volunteers totaled over 100 people. The groups sorted and loaded 42,000 pounds of potatoes Saturday.

“It was great to see the team have an impact on our community,” said head coach Jamie Grodecki. “It was great to be a part of an event that has such a big impact on Milledgeville area.”

The Bobcats will continue with their off-season schedule and start their season Feb. 2 when they host the 2013 Bobcat Blast at the Peeler Complex on West Campus.
