MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team and head coach Jamie Grodecki are happy to announce that eight student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent during the early-signing period to attend Georgia College and play for the Bobcats in 2015.
The eight new Bobcats come all come from Georgia high schools and will have freshmen standing for the 2014-15 academic year.
The incoming class includes: Jessica Hayles, C/IF/OF (Gordon, Ga.); Shawnda Martin, OF (Calhoun, Ga.); Macy Henry, 1B/3B (Douglasville, Ga.); Emily Robertson, OF (Dacula, Ga.); Baylee Hall, MIF (Augusta, Ga.); Tatiana Nettles, C/UT (Atlanta, Ga.); and twin-sisters from Sugar Hill, Ga., Hannah Coursey, UT ; and Holland Coursey, OF.
"We are very excited about this signing class," said Grodecki. "We have some very versatile and athletic kids coming in who are successful on the field and in the classroom, from All-State players to valedictorians. I am confident they will all be big contributors to our continued success here at Georgia College. I am also very proud that all of these future Bobcat student-athletes are from the state of Georgia and will be representing some very strong high school and travel ball programs at the collegiate level."
The Bobcats start the 2014 season at home Sat. Feb. 1 with a doubleheader against the University of West Alabama beginning at 11 a.m.
Jessica Hayles C/IF/OF Georgia Military College Prep / Gordon, Ga.
Hayles will join the Bobcats with leadership experience having served as team captain in her final two years at Georgia Military College Prep. A four-year honor roll student, senior Beta Club member and member of the National Honor Society; Hayles plan to major in pre-physical therapy and/or exercise science.
Shawnda Martin OF Gordon Central High / Calhoun, Ga.
Martin was all-region for three years (2011-13) and all-tournament twice (2011, 2012) while participating in varsity softball and basketball at Gordon Central High. Martin plans to major in education at Georgia College after being a merit and honor roll student and serving as student body president her senior year.
Hannah Coursey UT (OF/SS) Lanier High / Sugar Hill, Ga.
Coursey will join the Bobcats with her twin-sister Holland. Hannah was All-Gwinnett County and All-Region 8-AAA while being named Lanier's Most Valuable Player. Hannah was a 2013 All-State and honorable mention (Gwinnett County) selectee. Academically, Hannah has been honored as a Georgia Merit and AP scholar.
Holland Coursey OF Lanier High / Sugar Hill, Ga.
Holland will join the Bobcats with twin-sister Hannah. Holland was a four-time Gwinnett All-County scholar athlete and two-time (2012, 2013) All-Region 8-AAA selection. Holland was chosen to the Gwinnett Daily Post All-County Second-Team team while being honored as her high school's MVP (2013). She is also a two-time (2010, 2013) All-Gwinnett County Honorable Mention selectee. Academically, Holland has been honored as a Georgia Merit and AP scholar.
Macy Henry 3B/1B Alexander High / Douglasville, Ga.
Henry is a four-year starter at Alexander High where she was named to the all-county first-team (2013) and second-team (2012). Henry has been a scholar-athlete the last four years and a Superintendent Scholar her first year. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.
Emily Roberston OF Mill Creek High / Dacula, Ga.
Robertson helped her high school to a softball State Runner-Up season in 2011 and was a three-time varsity athlete. During that time, she achieved one first-team all-region and one county honorable mention selection. Robertson was also a track and field relay region champ and state qualifier. Academically, she has been a four-time scholar athlete, received an academic letter and has been named to the 2013 Gwinnett County's All-Academic Team. The Spanish National Honor Society member plans to major in pre-physical therapy at Georgia College.
Baylee Hall MIF Cross Creek High / Augusta, Ga.
Hall has been recognized the last four years for various softball accomplishments. Hall has captured first-team all-region three times (2011, 2012, 2013), and her team's coach's award twice (2010, 2011) as team MVP. She was an all-region honorable mention in 2010, and helped her team to the Elite-8 as region champions. In 2013, her team reached the Sweet-16 and she received the Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarship. A three-time class valedictorian and 2012 Georgia Merit Award-winner, Hall plans to major in nursing at Georgia College.
Tatiana Nettles C/UT The Lovett School/ Atlanta, Ga.
Nettles had the highest batting average for her high school team in each of her four years of attendance. In addition, she is a four-time all-region and rookie of the year selection. Nettles was awarded a full Atlanta Fellow Scholarship and plans to major in early childhood education at Georgia College.
