MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team will honor military personnel during its doubleheader Saturday, April 5 against Georgia Southwestern State University at the Peeler Complex beginning at 1 p.m. The goal is to honor all veterans both present and past that choose to attend, and to remind non-vets of the sacrifices that others have made for their freedoms.
In an effort to show their appreciation, the softball team will be assembling care packages for deployed troops and they are asking fans for their help and support in bringing as many care package items as they can.
Care packages are composed of items preferred while in deployment and contain such things as chewing gum, cookies, beef jerky, canned nuts, corn nuts, sunflower seeds, canned or dried fruit, coffee, shaving cream, white or green socks and game books.
The Georgia Military College Prep School Color Guard will be in attendance, as well as invitees from the Georgia War Veterans Home (GWVH), which is located in Milledgeville. A member of the GWVH will be throwing out the first pitch.
Veterans with Military ID who attend the game will receive free popcorn and a souvenir cup. There will also be camouflage T-shirts on sale at the game with all proceeds going toward Milledgeville's Georgia War Veterans Home.
