HICKORY, N.C. – The No. 20 Georgia College Softball Team (36-15) came up on the short end of a pitcher's duel, losing 2-1 to Carson-Newman University (33-19) in the first game of the 2018 NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament.

A near five-hour rain delay postponed proceedings after inclement weather forced the teams to vacate the field one pitch into the bottom of the first inning.

With play finally resumed, the Bobcats jumped in front in the third inning. After the Bobcats loaded the bases, Haley Howell (Rochelle, Georgia) looped a pitch into right field that brought in Sutton Long (Milledgeville, Georgia) to make it a 1-0 game.

Georgia College and pitcher Kayla Price (Indian Land, South Carolina) – making a relief appearance after starter Jessie Morris (Vidalia, Georgia) left the game in the second inning - stifled the Eagles through five innings. However, Carson-Newman struck back in the top of the sixth inning. The Eagles loaded the bases before a single and an error brought in two runs to put Carson-Newman on the board and give them their first lead of the game.

The Bobcats threatened late, but couldn't bring the tying run around to score.

Despite the loss, Price finished with a quality line of one earned-run over five innings of relief work.

The Bobcats will now face the loser of second-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne University and seventh-seeded Young Harris College in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow, May 11.
