LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recently announced the Division II All-Southeast Region Team, with Georgia College Softball (34-18) taking two spots on the list. Senior Caroline Snider (Tennille, Georgia) was named to the first team, while sophomore Haley Howell (Rochelle, Georgia) took a second-team spot.
Despite a season cut short with an injury, Snider hit .442 this season with 21 stolen bases, 34 runs and 26 RBIs. She's third in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) in steals, and would have won the batting average title if she had enough at-bats to qualify. This makes back-to-back All-Region honors for Snider from the NFCA, as she was selected to the second team last season.
Now a consensus All-Region choice, Howell hit .355 this season with three home runs, 64 RBIs and 20 runs scored. She ranks second in the nation and tops in the PBC in RBIs. She's also first in the PBC in doubles (16) and ninth in average. She is just the second NFCA All-Region catcher for GC Softball, joining Cheryl Chan in 2000.
All-time, GC Softball has earned 34 All-Region honors from the NFCA, 14 of which coming during the nine seasons with Jamie Grodecki as head coach.
Snider will move on to the All-America ballot, with an announcement set for May 22.
