WIL MORE, Ky. - A graduate assistant with the then Georgia College Lady Colonials under current head coach John Carrick from 1990-92, Bart Flener was announced as the new head women's basketball coach at Asbury College, an NAIA program competing in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC).
Flener has 14 years of experience coaching high school boys' basketball with a record of 251-151. He previously coached boys' basketball at West Jessamine High School in Nicholasville, Ky. from 2004 to 2006, leading the Colts to two district championships in 2005 and 2006 and a regional final four in 2005.
He coached at Lexington Catholic High School from 2002-04, accumulating two district championships, a regional runner-up and a No. 7 national ranking. From 1995-2002, Flener turned around the Glasgow Scotties from a 9-45 record in the two previous seasons to a 137-65 record over the next seven. The Scotties took home the 2001 All ‘A' Kentucky State Championship, along with two regional championships and numerous district titles.
In 2007-08, Flener served as assistant men's basketball coach and interim women's basketball coach at Asbury. He was a graduate assistant coach for women's basketball at Georgia College from 1990 to 1992. During those two seasons, the Lady Colonials were a combined 40-18, winning the first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Regular-Season title in 1992 with a 22-7 mark.
Flener received his Rank I in administration from Western Kentucky University, M.Ed. from Georgia College and State University and B.A. from the University of Kentucky. He is currently the district instructional coordinator and assistant principal at the Jessamine Career and Technology Center in the Jessamine County School System and coordinates numerous youth basketball camps.
