Georgia College Women’s Hoops Bounce Back 61-56 Over UNC Pembroke

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University women's hoops team (14-5, 7-2 PBC) was looking to regain some momentum after losing Friday (Jan. 29) night and that is exactly what they achieved. The Bobcats were able to defeat UNC Pembroke 61-56.

It took almost three and a half minutes for the ‘Cats to score their first bucket but a Chimere Jordan (Gray, Ga.) three-pointer put her team up 3-2. The Braves led by as many five points during the first half, but when Dominique Huffin (Tucker, Ga.) sank a three to put Georgia College up by two with 6:15 left, the Bobcats never gave up their lead.

Jordan led the Bobcats with 24 points, hitting five from behind the arc, and was 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. The junior guard also had four rebounds and four assists. Huffin was second on the squad with 10 points, four boards and four assists. Huffin hit three threes tonight giving her 133 in her career. Huffin remains eighth all-time and is two behind Amanda Manning's (1992-96) 135.

Antoinette Reames (Orlando, Fla.) dominated the boards, collecting 12 rebounds, eight on the offensive glass. The senior forward had the best overall game for Georgia College as she had eight points, six assists, two swats and two steals.

Shaquana Bleach (Ellenwood, Ga.) and Tammeisha Law (Athens, Ga.) aided the scoring efforts scoring nine and seven, respectively.

Georgia College outshot the Braves in three-pointers and free-throws. The Bobcats hit 12-27 (.444) from three-point land and 9-13 (.692) from the free-throw line while UNC Pembroke only shot 6-22 (.273) on three-pointers and 2-3 (.667) from the charity stripe.

The Braves were led by Casey Siddens' 14 points and Briana Stanton added 13 points and eight boards. JaToya Kemp, the conference's second-leading scorer at 17.8 points a contest, was held to only eight points.

The Bobcats are back in action at home Wednesday, Feb. 3 against West Division opponent North Georgia at 5:30 p.m.
