Bobcats Blowout Buccaneers, 71-54
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Georgia College & State University women's basketball team (2-0) opened up the Marriott Tipoff Classic hosted by Nova Southeastern University tonight (Nov. 20) with a win over Barry University (0-1) 71-54. The Bobcat bench powered the scoring, netting a 41-9 advantage over the Buccaneers.
The Bobcats shot really well tonight as junior Mandi Dudish (Snellville, Ga.) led the team scoring 20 points including six three pointers, while snagging four boards. Classmate Dominique Huffin (Tucker, Ga.) had a strong performance as well, putting up 19 points with three shots coming from behind the arc.
Senior Candice Clark (Warner Robins, Ga.) had a team-high nine rebounds while contributing offensively with six points and four assists. Preseason All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) point guard Shandrea Moore (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) came through with eight assists, eight points and three boards.
Despite being out-shot by Georgia College, the Buccaneers had three players who scored double-digits. Mariesa Greene put up a team high of 17 points, helped by Christina Thompson and Tilde Ahlin with 12 and 10, respectively.
The Bobcats were strong from long range, hitting 42 percent (10-24), with makes coming from Dudish, Huffin and Moore. The ‘Cats also controlled rebounding stats with a 37-28 edge, including an 18-6 domination on the offensive window.
Georgia College created a whopping 28 turnovers while having just 16 of their own.
Georgia College is back in action tomorrow taking on tournament host Nova Southeastern at 4 p.m. The Bobcats return home Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. against Edward-Waters College.
