MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College women’s basketball (3-10, 1-3 PBC) freshman guard, Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) took GC Athlete of the Week for the first week of the new year as announced by the athletic department. This is her second career award and first of 2012.
Keys was a glimmer of hope for the Bobcats in a rough week where GC dropped two Peach Belt Conference (PBC) matchups on the road to Columbus State University 57-46 and Flagler College 59-57. Keys averaged 20 points per game and 3.0 assists per game in the two losses.
She shot 13-of-23 (.565) from the field and 12-of-15 (.800) from the stripe while dishing out three assists. Keys’ best game of the week came against Flagler where the freshman dropped a career-high 24 points on 8-of-13 (.615) shooting, while recording six steals.
The Bobcats come home for a two-game home stint against PBC foes No. 14 USC Aiken and Augusta State University. GC plays USC Aiken Saturday, Jan. 14 set for a 1:30 p.m. tipoff.
