MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Sophomore guard Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) scored a career-high 32 points Sunday afternoon and led the Georgia College women's basketball team (10-7, 6-4 PBC) to a 68-55 victory over the visiting Young Harris College Mountain Lions (10-7, 4-6 PBC).
With the 32 points Keys topped her previous career high of 29 points, a plateau she had reached twice. She shot 10-of-23 from the field and was successful on all eight of her trips to the charity stripe. She also added four rebounds, one steal and one assist. The 32 points is the highest output for the Bobcats since Chimere Jordan scored 35 points Nov. 12, 2010. With the performance Keys surpassed 700 career points, standing now at 713.
Junior Thresia Elskamp (Potosi, Wis.) finished with 11 points on the night from 3-of-9 shooting and 2-of-5 from behind the arc. She also added five rebounds, four steals, and one assist.
Freshman guard Mckenna Rushton (Gainesville, Ga.) tied her career high with eight points. Coming off the bench, Rushton was 3-of-4 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 from downtown. She also added three rebounds and one steal in her 10 minutes of action.
Ladondra Johnson led the Mountain Lions with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Peyton Robertson finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
As a team, the Bobcats shot 20-of-49 from the field and 8-of-19 from behind the arc, compared to the Mountain Lions 16-of-51 from the field and 3-of-16 for three.
The Bobcats will be back in action Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. when they travel to Morrow, Ga. to take on No. 3 Clayton State University.
